Doctoral project

The Impact of FinTech (BNPL, Payment Systems, and Banking) on Macroeconomic Indicators in Uzbekistan

This doctoral project explores the relationship between financial technologies and macroeconomic performance in Uzbekistan, with a particular focus on Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) services, digital payment systems, and digital banking solutions. As FinTech adoption accelerates in emerging markets, it is increasingly important to understand not only the micro-level effects on consumer behavior and firm operations but also the broader macroeconomic implications.

The study aims to assess how these innovations influence key indicators such as GDP growth, inflation dynamics, household consumption patterns, financial inclusion, and overall market efficiency. Special attention will be paid to the role of payment platforms like Click, which have become critical infrastructures in Uzbekistan’s financial ecosystem.

The research will adopt a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative econometric analysis with qualitative insights from financial institutions, policymakers, and technology providers. The theoretical foundation will be grounded in Institutional Theory and Innovation Diffusion Theory, enabling a deeper understanding of both structural and behavioral factors shaping FinTech’s economic impact.

The expected contribution of the study lies in providing an evidence-based evaluation of how FinTech can serve as a driver of sustainable economic growth in developing economies. The findings will not only enrich academic literature but also offer actionable recommendations for policymakers seeking to balance innovation with financial stability.
