On September 25, 2024, Westminster International University in Tashkent (WIUT) hosted a highly informative seminar presented by Alisher Makhkamov, a PhD student in Economics at the University of Reading, UK, and a scholarship holder of the “El Yurt Umidi” Foundation.
The event, titled “PhD Research in UK: Reality and Challenges,” offered a candid and thorough look into the journey of pursuing a doctorate in the United Kingdom. Mr. Makhkamov drew from his personal academic experiences to discuss both the intellectual rewards and the practical challenges of conducting high-level research in a competitive international environment.
Attendees, including prospective PhD candidates, faculty, and undergraduate students, gained valuable insights into topics such as the application process, adapting to a new academic culture, time management, and maintaining well-being during the demanding course of study. The presentation was followed by a vibrant Q&A session, allowing for a deeper discussion of specific concerns.
The seminar served as an excellent platform for knowledge-sharing and underscored the strong academic connections between institutions and the support provided by the “El Yurt Umidi” Foundation for developing Uzbekistan's research talent.
WIUT extends its gratitude to Alisher Makhkamov for his insightful presentation and contribution to our academic community.
