Doctoral project

The title of the dissertation is “Methods of Accounting and Monitoring the Transition to a Green Economy in Uzbekistan Based on Artificial Intelligence Technologies.”

In the context of Uzbekistan’s strategic shift toward a green economy, the research explores how artificial intelligence (AI) can transform the collection, processing, and analysis of environmental and economic data. Transitioning to sustainable development requires systemic accounting and monitoring mechanisms, but the country currently faces gaps in integrating AI into national statistics.

The study aims to design an AI-based accounting and monitoring system tailored to Uzbekistan. Its key objectives include reducing manual reporting errors, automating data processing, and creating sustainability indices adapted to local conditions. AI tools such as computer vision (satellite analysis), natural language processing (for ESG reports and legislation), machine learning (forecasting emissions and investments), and big data dashboards (for integration into a Green Accounting System, GAS) will be employed.

The research draws on international standards like the GHG Protocol, GRI Standards, and IFRS S2, as well as global taxonomies (EU Taxonomy) to benchmark Uzbekistan’s practices. Data sources include national statistics (stat.uz, Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Finance), international databases (World Bank, OECD, UNDP), satellite imagery, and corporate ESG reports.

Preliminary findings highlight major barriers such as financing shortages, technological dependence, human resource gaps, and fragmented reporting. Early recommendations propose the development of a national Green Accounting System, harmonization of environmental legislation, and improvement of ecological literacy.

This doctoral project contributes to the theoretical and practical framework for applying AI in green economy monitoring, offering tools to enhance transparency, accuracy, and strategic planning for Uzbekistan’s sustainable future.
