ESTIMATING THE EFFECT OF CLIMATE CHANGE ON HUMAN HEALTH AND SOCIECONOMIC CONDITIONS: EMPIRICAL EVIDENCE FROM UZBEKISTAN
Climate change has emerged as one of the most critical challenges of the 21st century, with its impacts being felt most acutely in vulnerable regions such as Central Asia. This research aims to estimate the short- and long-term effects of climate change on human health and socioeconomic conditions in Uzbekistan. Specific environmental factors such as air pollution, rising temperatures, and land degradation are examined for their direct and indirect effects on public health and economic productivity. The study integrates statistical analyses of national and regional data, alongside comparative case studies from similar developing urban centers, including Mumbai (India) and Jakarta (Indonesia). These cities provide important lessons for shaping adaptive policy responses in Uzbekistan. The research findings will inform short-term interventions that can be implemented with existing institutional capacities and will contribute to the national Uzbekistan-2030 Strategy by supporting goals related to environmental sustainability and public health resilience.
My motivation for this study is deeply personal. As a mother concerned for the health of my children, I believe there is an urgent need to identify actionable strategies that can mitigate these effects in the short term. Beyond personal concern, this research is a call to action for policymakers, health professionals, and environmental planners in Uzbekistan.
