Doctoral project
The title of the dissertation is “Gender aspects of management - modern challenges and prospects”
In 2015, the United Nations adopted a program of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the global goal of which is to protect nature, eradicate poverty and ensure prosperity in all countries of the world by 2030. Goal No. 5 was gender equality, which includes measures to eliminate all forms of discrimination against women and girls, as well as comprehensive assistance in providing equal rights and opportunities for women to participate at all levels of economic and political decision-making.
Achieving gender equality is one of the important areas of socio-economic policy in Uzbekistan. The Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan pays special attention to ensuring equal social and economic rights and opportunities for women and men in the country. One of the strongest evidences of this is the adoption by the Oliy Majlis of the Law(2019) “On Guarantees of Equal Rights and Opportunities for Women and Men”, which affirms the basic principles of gender equality, such as equality of women and men, democracy and non-discrimination based on gender. Later in 2021, the Senate of the Oliy Majlis approved the “Strategy for Achieving Gender Equality until 2030”, and also adopted the Law on Amendments and Additions to the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On Guarantees of Equal Rights and Opportunities for Women and Men”, one of the main new points of which was the instruction to state-owned companies to conduct an annual gender audit, including information on the ratio of men and women, as well as the organization of activities based on an integrated gender approach and compliance with the law.
One of the main requirements of large investors for companies is not only effective financial indicators, but also compliance with ESG (environmental, social, and corporate governance) standards or "nature, society and management",ensuring ethical principles of doing business. Achieving gender equality and eliminating gender discrimination is a significant priority of the "Social" section. In 2019, it entered into the Resolution of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan "On approval of the strategy for the transition of the Republic of Uzbekistan to a "green economy" for the period 2019-2030, which serves as additional confirmation that solving gender issues is the main direction of not only political and social, but also economic and financial policy of the country.
The purpose of this research is to study the problem of the gender gap in Uzbekistan as a factor influencing the ESG indicators of companies, identifying possible reasons for its occurrence and providing specific recommendations for its reduction.
