Faculty Mentoring in Higher Education: Case of Uzbekistan

The title of the dissertation is “Faculty Mentoring in Higher Education: Case of Uzbekistan”.

The purpose of the study: To design, implement and evaluate a faculty mentoring program in higher education institutions in Uzbekistan.

The tasks of the research: Develop a faculty mentoring program based on the proposed model. Specify clear steps, timeframe and expected outcomes of the program. Involve HR specialists of higher education institutions in implementing and conducting the program.

Monitor and supervise the implementation process of the program. Continuously analyze the program throughout its implementation and examine outcomes using predefined variables. Engage all participants in evaluating the program. Collect feedback and suggestions for further enhancement of the program.

Conduct expansion and cross comparison by implementing the program in other higher education institutions after the pilot phase. Subsequently, evaluate the results and conduct a comparative analysis. Based on the obtained results, develop a comprehensive faculty mentoring model applicable to Uzbekistan.

The object of the study. The faculty mentoring program implemented in several higher education institutions with the purpose of addressing the government’s strategic plan for advancing the higher education sector, specifically focusing on faculty professional development.

The subject of research. The research focuses on the program, policies and procedural aspects which govern the faculty mentoring process within higher education institutions during the implementation phase.

Research methods. Mixed research design was implemented through the utilisation of surveys and semi-structured interviews. Quantitative and qualitative data collection tools are used to provide a comprehensive overview of the results.

The scientific novelty of the research. The educational landscape of Uzbekistan has yet to develop comprehensive and effective professional development methods for faculty members. New academic staff members, whether just starting their careers or moving to a different educational institution, often lack support and guidance. The current study addresses this gap by analysing the educational setting by considering government policies, cultural aspects and industry-specific requirements. Based on empirical evidence, the study introduced a faculty mentoring program and investigated the results.

The findings contributed to a novel approach to faculty mentoring, which is aligned with governmental, institutional and individual requirements.
