Doctor of Philosophy Programme

Starting from 2020-2021 academic year Westminster International University in Tashkent (WIUT) offers local Ph.D. and DSc programs in two disciplines:
- Management (08.00.13)
- Econometrics & Statistics (08.00.06)

The primary reference document for admission and study at the Graduate School is the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated May 22, 2017 No. 304 “On Measures to Further Improve the System of Postgraduate Education”.

Candidates can register for Ph.D./DSc programs full-time or part-time (as Independent researchers). According to the Resolution of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, dated December 24, 2021, No.60, ”On additional measures to ensure academic, organizational and manageriall independence of state higher educational institutions,” the graduate programmes could be “Government or University funded” or “Self-sponsored-contract based”, subject to funding availability and the decision of the university's management.

Registration for the full-time programme is open from 15th September until 15th October each year.

Candidates can apply for part-time (Independent researcher) programme quarterly:
The first intake: from 15th September until 15th October;
The second intake: from 15th January until 15th February;
The third intake: from 15th April until 15th May;
The fourth intake: from 15th July until 15th August.

Requirements and study process

Requirements for candidates

For PhD:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent diploma of higher education (according to specialty programmes);
  • Research achievements, including at least one scientific article (journal paper) published in a scientific journal, and at least two abstracts in scientific conference proceedings in the relevant fields, which can form the basis of the PhD dissertation.
  • Scientific and pedagogical work experience of at least two years or the presence of certain scientific achievements (patents for inventions or copyright certificates) is additional to the above documents for Independent researcher applicants.

Requirements for completing studies at postgraduate educational institutions. PhD candidate for the three years of study should:

In the first year of study:
  • compile and approve an individual plan on the dissertation topic;
  • compile and approve the theoretical and methodological programme in the area of specialization;
  • publish at least 1 (one) scientific article on the topic of the dissertation in specialized scientific journals indicated in the list of the Supreme Attestation Commission;
  • participate with a report on the topic of the dissertation in a scientific conference;
  • make a report at a seminar at the university on the results of an analytical review on the dissertation topic (together with the supervisor);
